“The Little Team that Could”

On October 2, the Edinburgh Lancers’ varsity football team played the Indiana School for the Deaf. The game started off slow with a score of 6-7 at half-time, in favor of the Deaf Hoosiers. The Lancers, not discouraged, came back pumped for the second half. The players on the sideline were full of energy and encouragement for their teammates on the field. The fans joined in the excitement by stomping and cheering in support of their Lancer Football team. In the end, the Lancers were victorious with a final score of 12-7. Although there have been multiple games over the past few years during which the team and the fans were hopeful, the October 2 game against the Deaf Hoosiers was the first game in seven years that was not followed by a gut-wrenching let-down. “I knew we would win one, and we finally did!” exclaimed Sophomore Andrew Burroughs after winning. This time, the tears after the game were tears of joy. The excitement seen during the game was intensified ten-fold after the win, the amount of excitement you’d expect to see after winning a championship game. Junior Jason Burton said “It feels great to finally get what we’ve all been working so hard for.” Another player even referred to their team as “the little team that could.” It may not have been a championship game, but it was a major accomplishment for the Lancers.
